Driver arrested for bribery after high-speed chase in Kempton Park

A foreign national’s attempt to flee and bribe EMPD officers ended in arrest during a routine law enforcement operation in Kempton Park.

Members of the EMPD Community Liaison Unit (CLU) arrested a 55-year-old foreign national on October 5 for bribery and failing to comply with a lawful instruction.

While conducting law enforcement duties in the Kempton Park CBD, CLU officers attempted to stop a blue VW Scirocco. The driver ignored the instruction and sped off.

A brief chase followed, and the suspect was apprehended at the corner of West and Park streets.

As officers approached the vehicle, the suspect allegedly offered them a R200 bribe as an apology for disregarding their instructions.

The man was detained at the Kempton Park Police Station and faces charges of bribery and failing to comply with a lawful instruction.

He is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
