EMPD arrests suspect after attempted car theft in Kempton Park CBD

A man was arrested in the Kempton Park CBD after EMPD officers responded to a call about two suspects breaking into a Renault Kiger, leading to the recovery of burglary tools and the impounding of a getaway vehicle.

Kempton Park EMPD officers arrested a man for attempted car theft and malicious property damage on November 11.

Officers were on patrol in the CBD when a Traffic Warden on Voortrekker Road and Casuarina Street called for backup, reporting that two people were breaking into a Renault Kiger.

The responding officers found one man with a pair of scissors, burglary tools and two remotes. He was arrested. The second person fled the scene.

A white VW Polo used in the commission of the crime was impounded and taken to the EMPD Kempton Park pound.

The suspect was detained at Kempton Park Police Station and faces charges of attempted car theft and malicious damage to property. He will soon appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
