Gauteng Police arrest 117 suspects, recover 50 motor vehicles and seven firearms

Fifty hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 10 arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Seven firearms were recovered accompanying three arrests.

Police Emergency Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 117 suspects, recovered 50 vehicles and seven firearms between January 23 and January 29.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts, and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 49 arrests for serious crimes including common assault, assault to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), possession of suspected stolen property, robbery, pointing a firearm at someone, kidnapping, extortion, murder, possession of gold-bearing material, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal mining, malicious damage to property, theft, house burglary, fraud, armed robbery, and illegal immigrants.

The team recovered 50 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with 10 arrests for the possession of these vehicles. They also recovered seven firearms, accompanying three arrests.

In further policing, the team made 55 arrests for possession and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax, and crystal methamphetamine were among the substances confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
