Gauteng police arrest 159 suspects and recover 58 vehicles in week-long operation
A total of 58 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with eight arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
Police Emergency Services (PES), comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 159 suspects, recovered 58 motor vehicles, and nine firearms between February 20 and February 26.
The police members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 72 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, robbery, shoplifting, fraud, selling medicine without compliance to prescribed regulation, illegal possession of unwrought precious metal, malicious damage to property, theft, housebreaking, rape, possession of unlicensed ammunition, armed robbery, theft out of motor vehicle, kidnapping, contravention of a protection order and illegal immigrant.
They recovered 58 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles with eight arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Nine firearms were recovered, along with six arrests.

In further policing, 73 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax, and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigation continues in these cases.
The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrates’ Courts across Gauteng.
