Police Emergency Services recover vehicles and firearms in Gauteng crackdown

A week of coordinated operations resulted in 105 arrests for crimes including robbery, drugs and theft.

Police Emergency Services (PES), comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 105 suspects, recovered 31 motor vehicles and five firearms between February 27 and March 5.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 40 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, house robbery, driving under the influence of liquor, illegal refinery, possession of house breaking implements, malicious damage to property, theft, housebreaking, possession of imitation firearm with intent to commit crime, domestic violence, human trafficking, attempted carjacking, possession of counterfeit goods and illegal immigrant.

Officers recovered 31 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles and made nine arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Five firearms were recovered, along with six arrests.

In further policing, there were 50 arrests for possession and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, Cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will appear in local magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
