Police seize firearms and drugs as 96 suspects arrested across Gauteng

Coordinated law enforcement operations in Gauteng resulted in arrests linked to serious crimes including robbery, kidnapping and drug-related offences.

From May 29 to June 4, Police Emergency Services, comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 96 suspects and recovered 65 motor vehicles and two firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 24 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, kidnapping, pointing of a firearm, rape, theft, armed robbery and illegal immigrants.

A total of 65 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, with 17 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Two firearms were recovered.

In further policing, 53 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), mandrax, and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrates’ Courts across Gauteng.
