Gauteng police net 138 suspects in crime prevention operations
A week-long police operation resulted in arrests linked to serious crimes, drug offences and possession of stolen vehicles.
Police Emergency Services, comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 138 suspects, recovered 41 motor vehicles, and seven firearms between May 22 and May 28.
Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 49 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, business robbery, possession of explosives, possession of unlicensed ammunition, malicious damage to property, arson, possession of counterfeit money, rape, theft, driving under the influence of liquor, armed robbery, carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, domestic violence, house breaking, bribery and illegal immigrants.

A total of 41 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, with 12 arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Seven firearms were recovered, along with six arrests.
In further policing, 71 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigation continues in these cases.
The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
