EMPD recovers stolen Toyota Quantum and R200 000 worth of batteries in Ebony Park

Stolen Toyota quantum and R200k worth of batteries recovered in Ebony Park.

The EMPD Northern Region Task Team recovered a stolen vehicle and property valued at an estimated R200 000 during an operation in Ebony Park Extension 6 on June 4.

At approximately 09:00, officers acted on information and tracking coordinates received from Tracker regarding a stolen white Toyota Quantum.

On arrival at Boschoff Road, officers located the vehicle parked inside a residential yard. A preliminary inspection revealed that the Quantum had been partially stripped.

The front registration plate was missing; a Gauteng registration plate had been fitted at the rear; and the licence disc did not correspond to the vehicle’s details.

EMPD media liaison officer Katlego Mphahlele said the property owner claimed to have no knowledge of how the vehicle ended up on the premises.

“The property owner stated he had discovered the vehicle in the yard that morning. He advised officers that he shares the property with tenants, none of whom were present at the time.

“With the owner’s consent, members searched two open tenant rooms on the premises,” said Mphahlele.

During the search, officers recovered 20 boxes of Samsung lithium-ion batteries valued at an estimated R200 000 from one of the rooms.

The batteries were booked in at Ivory Park SAPS, while the vehicle was towed to the Aeroton SAPS vehicle pound pending further investigation.

No arrests had been made at the time of publication, and investigations are continuing.
