Thembisa Power: Residents protest after load reduction is implemented

Some residents have been without power for over 24 hours.

Residents in Thembisa have taken to the streets in protest after another day without power.

Protesters have gathered at the intersection of Rocket Street and Brian Mazibuko East Drive where the roads have been barricaded with burning tyres and rocks.

The protest follows an explosion at a transformer feeding a large area of Thembisa.

Some residents have said they have been without power for over 24 hours.

The Thembisan was informed that engineers are working to restore power to the area but in the meantime the City of Ekurhuleni has implemented load reduction for a large area within Thembisa.
