In an attempt to get the councillor to resign, residents marched from Mpumelelo Primary School to Tembisa 2 customer care centre in the Winnie Mandela Section to hand over their memorandum.

Residents strike for better services.

The memorandum was submitted to the MMC of Community Safety in the City of Ekurhuleni, Sizakele Masuku.

The Ward 102 committee spokesperson, David Mabitsela, said that the strike is a result of complaints from the community over the lack of basic services provided in the ward.

“The councillor has been accused of neglecting the community members of Ward 102 in relation to service delivery,” said Mabitsela.

“He has been called to various meetings to address the issues of illegal dumping and electricity connections, along with problems with potholes and sewage leaking through the Tswelopele Secondary School premises.

“Every time we file concerns about the lack of basic services, the councillor has failed to provide any justifications or responses as to why we are unable to get these essential services.

“The residents of ward 102 based on this tabled a motion through a memorandum to remove the ward councillor from office.”

The committee also believes the councillor changed offices without informing residents.

“The councillor has moved his office of operation without any consultation of any stakeholders from the official office that was based at Thembisa 2 CCC to an unknown office that is located 951/B132 Duduza Block B,” said Mabitsela.

The residents also accuse the councillor of hiring family and friends for any opportunities granted to him.

“Nepotism has been taking place under the councillor’s reign. The councillor has ensured that all projects/work within the ward are given to his close associates and family members.

It is also alleged that many residents have observed that the councillor is disrespectful.

“The councillor has countless times insulted members of the community telling them how dirty and filthy they are during community meetings and other ward-related gatherings.

“The councillor’s close associates have been going around intimidating community members not to hold the councillor accountable for his actions,” said Mabitsela.

Residents want the council member to vacate his job.

“Residents of Ward 102 demand the councillor to step down as the community’s councillor. We request feedback within seven working days,” said Mabitsela.

Mabje claims that he has not received any memo from the office and as a result, he is unable to comment.

Community members said the memorandum was submitted to Masuku and provided The Thembisan with an acknowledgement of acceptance.

The Thembisan contacted the MMC’s office on May 31 several times to request comment as to why the ward councillor had not received the memorandum.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
