The event aimed to train men to become champions for their families and communities.
“Through the session, we wanted to educate men about responsible drinking. We told the participants where they could go if they needed help with physiological and emotional problems,” said facilitator Sydney Madibo.
Madibo added that the organisation wanted to establish a culture where men could open up and share their feelings and confide in one another instead of suffering in silence.

“We wanted to create an environment where men can express and share what is going on in their lives so they can get support from other men,’’ he told The Thembisan.

The men’s dialogue also allowed the participants to express themselves.
Madibo said such sessions were crucial because many men are killing themselves, and some live with depression.
He added that the sessions encouraged men to be there for one another.

He believes that if young men do not have guidance from older men, they won’t know how to become men.
According to Madido, men played the role of protectors and leaders.
“Men, you are enough. It doesn’t matter what you have or do not have. The fact that you were born a man and came into this world makes you enough as a man.”

He said it was up to men to find their purpose and value, which did not rest on the material possessions they have, but on their character.

Brandon Moloi attended and said the session reminded him he was responsible for his family and the community.
“I was happy that I got to attend this session because it helped me to open up about some of the challenges I went through as a man. I’m also happy to know I wasn’t the only one who was going through such,” said Moloi.
