Open manhole in Rhodesfield remains a concern

Residents have resorted to complaining on popular social media platform, Twitter.

An open manhole has become a cause for concern for Rhodesfield residents.

The manhole on Firefly Street was opened last year by municipal workers during the restoration of a sewerage pipeline.

To date, the hole remains open and residents fear it poses a danger to motorists and pedestrians.

Additionally, the area has now also been used for illegal dumping.

Residents have resorted to voicing their complaints on social media because they believe that sending emails to the City of Ekurhuleni leads to no results at all.

The Kempton Express contacted Ward 17 Clr Simon Lapping.

“There are many open manholes in the area of Rhodesfield. I’m not aware of this one because sometimes residents don’t complain to me, but they take their complaints straight to the media.

“If I don’t know about an issue the community is facing, then I can’t take it up to the City of Ekurhuleni,” he said.

Lapping requested that The Express send him the submitted information by residents so he can look into the matter.

At the time of going to print, no comment was received.
