CoE to tackle open manhole in Rhodesfield
An open manhole in Rhodesfield has residents feeling worried, as it posses a danger to motorists and pedestrians.
Before the end of this month, repairs to the open manhole in Rhodesfield will be complete.
This news came from CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
In the July 13 edition of the Kempton Express, we reported that the open manhole was a concern for residents.
The manhole on Firefly Street in Ward 17 was opened last year by municipal workers restoring a sewerage line.

Further concerns from the residents included the area around the open manhole becoming a target for illegal dumping.

To get more information on the matter, the Kempton Express contacted Clr Simon Lapping.
“There are many open manholes in the area of Rhodesfield. I’m unaware of this one because sometimes, residents do not complain to me but take their complaints straight to the media.
“If I don’t know about an issue the community faces, I can’t take it up with the city,” he said.
Dlamini said the city was aware of the matter.
“It was dug because of repairs to the broken sewer pipe,” he said.

“The city constantly monitors the sewer system as preventative maintenance.
“There was a delay of reinstatement because of the availability of materials,” said Dlamini.
“The open trench will be reinstated before the end of July.”
He added that the CoE would ensure the availability of materials and improve communication between departments to enable sharing of store materials.
