During the pool game earlier in the season, the Jeugland boys came out on top with a 12 – 10 victory over the team from Ermelo.
Ligbron came with attack after attack, but Jeugland’s defence stood firm and gave nothing away.
The kicker of both teams had a hard day at the office with a strong wind that blew across the field.
At halftime, Jeugland was trailing 3 – 0.
With the start of the second half, you could feel the tide was turning and Jeugland had more possession of the ball.
With the kickers from both teams keeping the scoreboard ticking with two drop goals from Ligbron and a penalty from Jeugland’s number 10, King Agbanzo, the score was stuck on 9 – 6 for Ligbron.
With less than five minutes to go, Jeugland was on the attack and was testing Ligbron’s defence close to Ligbron’s goal line.
After a few attempts to cross the line, Jeugland’s number 15 Sibongiseni Sekwane went over for the match’s only try.
Jeugland took the lead 11 – 9 for the first time in the match.
With only two minutes left the Jeugland boys stood their ground and were crowned the 2023 Noordvaal Shield U16 champions
