SADAG celebrates three years of making mental health matter

The event emphasised the importance of reaching out to loved ones, seeking professional help, and creating a supportive environment for those struggling with mental health issues.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) marked three years of relentless efforts in raising awareness about mental health at their Ivory Park Counselling Container, on October 31.

The event, held in celebration of World Mental Health Day, saw residents of Ivory Park coming together to support this vital cause.

Despite the rainy weather, the determination of the community was evident as they braved the rain to attend the event.

The blue containers, a symbol of hope and healing, provided a safe and welcoming space for individuals to gather and engage in conversations surrounding mental health.

SADAG, an NPO dedicated to promoting mental health and providing support to those in need, organised the event to encourage residents to actively participate in the movement for mental health awareness.

As part of their campaign, SADAG called on attendees to wear something green to show their support for mental health.

According to Thandi Shabala, container manager, SADAG representatives were present to provide information, offer counselling services and distribute educational materials on mental health conditions.

“We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health and it’s crucial to break the stigma surrounding mental illness.

“Events like these help us create a safe space for people to talk openly about their mental health struggles. This event has inspired others to be more open about their struggles and to seek help when needed,” said Shabalala.
