Operation Antifreeze needs donations for its Christmas hamper campaign.
The Christmas hampers consist of non-perishable foods such as mealie meal, samp, rice, pasta, soup, tinned foods, biscuits, sweets, tea bags, toothpaste or soap.
This year the operation aims to assist over 640 less fortunate children.
According to Hilary Carhart, project coordinator and fundraiser for Operation Antifreeze, in previous years the organisation managed to collect 650 Christmas hampers.

“Our beneficiaries change each year as the children in the schools change. Last year we provided 650 food parcels to beneficiaries every month.
“We need to hand out the hampers before the schools close. We have many other families that we assist with food so we will continue to collect up until Christmas.”
Aside from the Christmas hampers drive, Operation Antifreeze is also collecting school stationery to be given to each child as a stationery pack in January. The campaign has been running for over 23 years.
“In its 23rd year of dedicated service, Operation Antifreeze continues to be a beacon of hope for underprivileged children in our community.
“The NPO is renowned for its monthly provision of food parcels to 640 disadvantaged school children,” said Carhart.

She said the initiative aims to ensure that the children have sustenance during the upcoming school holidays.
“For many of these children, the daily sandwich provided by their school is not just a meal, it is often their only meal of the day.”
During weekends, some go without food from Friday until they return to school on Monday.
“Operation Antifreeze steps in to fill this crucial gap by supplying food parcels each month and the Christmas hamper drive seeks to make the holiday season a little brighter for these youngsters.”
Despite these challenges, Operation Antifreeze remains steadfast in its commitment to making a difference in the lives of those living under the breadline.
The community is invited to contribute to this heartwarming cause by sponsoring a complete hamper for R120.

Operation Antifreeze emphasises that any amount, big or small, will help them reach their goal.
“Let’s come together as a community and show these children that they are cared for, especially during the festive season.”
