On January 26, it was the turn of two schools operating in a township under strenuous conditions.

The mayor noted how resilient these two schools have been, even though they are run a no-fee model, with the majority of learners from destitute informal settlements.

“I am encouraged by how these two principals have managed to bring out excellence from the very dire conditions.

They have managed to groom these learners to be winners, attaining an over 80% pass rate in the class of 2023.

“At Inxiweni, the learners are competing provincially in academics and sporting codes, attaining the best positions, including first positions in some contests,” said Ngodwana.

“You cannot expect good and even excellent results if you start working hard at the last minute. This is an exercise that requires a constant focus on those books,” he said.
