Ekurhuleni residents get new houses and title deeds

Ngodwana said the project in Clayville will see just under 500 houses handed over to new owners in the near future.

Ekurhuleni executive mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana joined the Minister of Human Settlements Mmamoloko Kubayi and Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Lebohang Maile, in distributing houses to first-time homeowners in Clayville, Thembisa, on January 31.

Ngodwana said the project in Clayville will see just under 500 houses handed over to new owners in the near future.

The eldest beneficiary holder, Christina Ndou (91) said she thought she would die without having to own a proper home.

“This is the best day of my life. At my age I was beginning to think I would die without having to own a proper house,” said an emotional Christina Ndou.

“I am happy to be a homeowner. I used to stay in a shack at Vusimuzi, Thembisa, with my late husband.

“The living conditions were not pleasant and when my husband passed away in 2022, I went to stay with my daughter,” said Bette Mashatola (78).

Another beneficiary, Rodah Sebuyi, said if there was music she would dance.

“I am very happy. I cannot explain the joy I am feeling. I am grateful to the minister for the house and the workers who came out and looked for me. I have been staying in a shack for many years and it was not nice.
