Kempton Park CPF urges residents to be vigilant

Coetzee explained that the CPF is a platform between the community and the SAPS that helps the SAPS accomplish its mandate, which includes keeping the area free of crime.

As the holiday season draws to a close, the Kempton Park CPF urges residents to be extra cautious.

“We cannot underscore the importance of prioritising safety measures,” said Kim Coetzee, the Kempton Park CPF public relations officer.

She urged residents to safeguard their properties, exercise vigilance regarding personal belongings and pack things away at night.

“Ensure doors, gates, and windows are closed and locked. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and ensure valuables are not visible in your car.

“Those using public transport are reminded to remain vigilant during their commute and urged to walk with friends as opposed to alone,” she said.

Coetzee explained that the CPF is a platform between the community and the SAPS that helps the SAPS accomplish its mandate, which includes keeping the area free of crime.

“Through the efforts of many, this mandate has, in 2023, resulted in a noteworthy surge in community involvement.”

She said an increasing number of residents, churches, schools, associations, forums, security companies, and businesses have aligned with the shared goal of fostering a safer Kempton Park.

“We commend these efforts and express gratitude to the many men and women employed to serve or volunteer their time for the community.

“It is because of their insight and dedication that we have a functioning foundation upon which we can assist the SAPS in effectively bringing criminals to justice,” said Coetzee.

“The road ahead is by no means free from challenges, but it is clear from what we have achieved in 2023 that, as a community, we are not powerless against criminals when we work together.”

She shared some of the successes of the Kempton Park CPF last year.

“Community involvement in the CPF increased significantly, and all the requirements mandated by law for new volunteers and volunteer patrollers were complied with.

Significant strides were made in enhancing our communication capabilities, and we now enjoy a much improved crime-fighting communications network.

“Area patrols increased significantly, with CPF members participating in various crime-fighting activities, including several SAPS operations aimed to make our streets safer.

“The SAPS community kiosk was deployed in Kempton Park to alleviate congestion at the Kempton SAPS customer service centre and will continue in 2024,” said Coetzee.

She said that despite the successes, the forum could acknowledge that the concern about crime persists.

“The need for increased community participation remains crucial. We urge everyone to play their part by obeying the law and promptly reporting any incidents. Together, let’s ensure a united front against crime as we venture into 2024,” she said.
