EMPD recovers stolen auto parts valued at R9-million

All the recovered goods, including the reported hijacked truck, were confiscated and taken to the police station for thorough investigations. More arrests are imminent.

The EMPD’s Northern Region Task Team officers and SAPS Ekurhuleni Crime Intelligence Unit members arrested two men and recovered R9m worth of reported stolen goods and a hijacked truck on February 19.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the officers acted on a tip-off from a reliable source about a suspicious white Mercedes Benz truck parked at a house on Malaka Street in Mamelodi.

The EMPD and SAPS apprehended two male suspects and recovered R9m worth of reported stolen goods on February 19.

Thepa said officers found a 19-year-old at the premises and questioned him.

The house occupant alleged the truck belonged to his stepfather and allowed officers to search it.

Officers found a variety of new motor vehicle parts inside the vehicle.

“They tested the truck and found it was hijacked from the owner two weeks prior in Kempton Park.

“The 57-year-old stepfather arrived at the premises, and officers arrested both suspects.

“They face charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of stolen goods and were taken to the Mamelodi West Police Station,” said Thepa.

The detained pair will soon appear at the relevant magistrate’s court.
