Local police warn of crime and provide safety tips

Be cautious when driving at night especially when approaching intersections.

Bedfordview SAPS warn residents to exercise caution in hotspots as crime continues to skyrocket.

Bedfordview spokesperson Lillian Modiga highlighted criminal activities such as hijackings.

Criminals are mostly targeting specific vehicles, The Kraft offramp, N1, has seen a surge in hijackings, primarily targeting Toyota Hilux vehicles.

Modiga warned motorists to exercise extra caution and remain alert at all times.

At the Gilooy’s Interchange, criminals are targeting Toyota Quantums.

“Drivers passing through this interchange should be especially cautious and attentive to any suspicious activity.

“As for Barbara Road and Linksfield, this stretch of road is known for hijackings targeting NP200 and H1-loaded trucks.

“If your route takes you through this area, be extra vigilant and take necessary precautions,” stated Modiga.

She advised motorists to follow these safety tips:

• Avoid stopping for directions or breakdowns. If you are stopped by someone for directions or experience a breakdown, do not stop immediately.

Instead, continue driving to the nearest filling station or police station where you can safely seek assistance.

• Be cautious when driving at night especially when approaching intersections controlled by traffic lights or stop signs.

• Be wary of followed vehicles.
