Bonaero Park sewerage: Repairs conducted at pump station

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said officials were aware of an incident which resulted in Leipoldt's property being flooded with sewerage.

Residents of Bonaero Park may soon get the answers they are looking for regarding the sewage pipeline issues.

In the April 3 edition of the Kempton Express, resident Yolindie Leipoldt said that despite promises made by officials, sewage continued to flow through to her property.

A council representative visited Leipoldt’s home to witness her dire situation firsthand.

“The situation is serious, and he said he was going to help us fight the issue. I cannot deal with this anymore,” Leipoldt said.

She added that her son’s asthma was worsening and she put the blame squarely as a result of the raw sewerage in her yard.

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said officials were aware of an incident that occurred at the end of March, which resulted in Leipoldt’s property being flooded with sewerage.

“Officials addressed some operational issues that affected the running of the pump station.

“The team had to switch off the pump to conduct repairs. Furthermore, contractors installed the second (standby) pump as a backup.

“This happened between 09:00 and 14:00 and the pump has been running smoothly ever since,” Dlamini claimed.

Leipoldt stated that the CoE did not notify her of their claims or allow her to witness what they claimed to have done in the pump station.

She was still experiencing the same issue even after the Kempton Express visited her home.

Leipoldt mentioned in the previous reportage that she does not want to move because she paid a lot of money for that property and even if she sells it, she will not receive the same amount she paid to the previous owners because of the spill.

“I do not want to move because not everyone has the money to just up and move. If I sell this house now, I would not get what I paid for it because of the sewage situation. I cannot keep my mouth shut,” she remarked.

“All the promises they made remain empty as they did not follow up on my situation.”

Leipoldt still hopes that the pump station will be moved.

“All the solutions that have been promised are temporary, not permanent.”

She fears that every time they come up with a solution, they will always return to the same situation.

She said that she is tired of playing the back-and-forth game with officials.

“It’s the same thing over and over again. There are always promises but no solutions.”
