Suspects caught, three vehicles and one firearm recovered by flying squad

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members arrested three suspects and recovered three motor vehicles and one firearm between November 5 and 9.

The members followed up on information on November 5 at about 12:45 of a stolen white Toyota Cross in the Crystal Park area.

On arrival at the address, they found the Cross parked inside and tested the Vehicle Identification Number, which revealed it was sought on a Heidelberg case.

They also tested a white Mahindra parked on the premises and found it was reported hijacked on a De Deur case.

The officers impounded the vehicles but made no arrests.

On November 7 at about 12:30, the members were contacted by security and the CPF in Edenvale to help with a vehicle allegedly sought for theft in Secunda.

On arrival on 4th Avenue in Edenvale, they found the silver Toyota Corolla with two suspects. Investigations led to them learning it had false registration plates, and a VIN test revealed it was reported stolen on a Primrose case.

Officers immediately arrested the two suspects and impounded the vehicle. A police cap found in the vehicle was handed in as an exhibit.

On November 9 at about 11:00, the members stopped at a petrol station in Bapsfontein.

They saw a suspicious-looking person seated near the toilet entrance with a side bag hanging against his upper body.

They approached and searched the person. Inside the bag was a black 9mm Norinco pistol with 10 live rounds of ammunition.

The pistol had been painted black to cover the serial number. The 30-year-old could not produce a license, leading to his immediate arrest.

Investigations continue in all cases.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrate’s court, facing charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
