Thembisa ex-muso drums up support for rising artists

The musician opted to become an event organiser to create a platform for other musicians.

Sonwabo Manxiwa, originally from the Eastern Cape and now based in Gauteng, has carved a unique path in the music industry.

After relocating to Gauteng in 2009, the same year he released his debut mixtape, The Dream Come True, Manxiwa performed at various venues across Thembisa and Midrand.

However, early in his career, he often faced the frustration of attending shows without getting a chance to perform, an experience that fueled his desire for change.

In 2013, Manxiwa founded Street Millionaire Entertainment, driven by his experiences as an artist.

“I felt obligated to help upcoming artists by providing a platform where they can showcase their art as often as possible,” Manxiwa said.

“For years, we supported one or two artists annually, helping elevate their careers without charging them because my goal was for them to grow and become big superstars in this industry.

“Over time, we saw just how many artists needed this platform, which inspired me to organise more events and promote more artists, ensuring their work is protected.”

Today, Manxiwa is a well-known event organiser in the region, hosting musical events twice a year under the Meat and Cocktail Extravaganza banner.

These gatherings attract a community of music lovers and provide local artists with a stage and audience.

Manxiwa funds these events himself and compensates all the participating artists.

This approach helps local talent earn a living and motivates them for future opportunities.
