Kempton resident continues to aid the homeless

Nkala is now appealing to the community for help with donations of groceries, vegetables, meat, clothes and more.

Kempton Park resident, Rosey Nkala, is the founder of Pushpa Cares and she has dedicated herself to feeding the homeless in her community.

Using her own resources, she provides balanced meals and essential items to those in need.

Due to financial struggles, Nkala has had to pause her efforts, with the last meal served on October 5.

She is now appealing to the community for donations of groceries, vegetables, meat, clothing, and other necessities to continue her vital work.

“I provide a balanced meal with vegetables, starch, protein, and fruit, along with clothing when possible,” said Nkala.

“Having to pause the feeding scheme has been heartbreaking because helping others is not just about them, it’s also about the joy it brings to give.”

Nkala shared that her mission began with feeding the homeless but has since expanded to helping underprivileged families.

Despite being a single parent who works full-time, she remains deeply committed to her cause.

“When we dish up, watching the straight line they form for food is so painful. At that moment, I always wonder when their last meal was,” she said.

Addressing common perceptions about homelessness, Nkala added: “Some people don’t want to help the homeless because they associate them with crime, but we need to ask ourselves: what led them to the streets?”

Nkala’s dream is to grow Pushpa Cares into a larger organisation capable of providing not only food but also a safe space for homeless children and resources to support their education.

With the festive season approaching, Nkala hopes to distribute Christmas hampers to the homeless, spreading love and warmth during a time meant for family, giving, and togetherness.

“I pray that anyone who comes across my appeal will lend a helping hand. Two hands are better than one,” she said.

Donations can be dropped off at Nkala’s residence in Lina Court, Casuarina Avenue, Kempton Park.
