Terenure resident faces electricity woes

According to Khotseng, the DB board and the external electrical box remain open, with the wires disconnected.

Busisiwe Khotseng, a resident of the 15 Kildare Estate in Terenure, has had no electricity since November 12.

Khotseng explained that municipal workers inspected the issue and determined the cable supplying electricity to her home was faulty.

“They disconnected the electricity from the DB board and the box attached to the house outside,” she said.
She was told a technician would later come to identify the exact location of the fault.

“The technician arrived and marked areas outside the boundary wall and inside my yard,” Khotseng said.

Later, municipal workers responsible for digging told her that if the problem was inside her property, they could not assist, and she would need to hire a private electrician.

The danger outside.

“They said they couldn’t find the fault in the marked area, so they assumed the issue was under the boundary wall or inside the yard.

“Without explaining anything further or providing any paperwork, they closed up and left,” she added.

According to Khotseng, the DB board and the external electrical box remain open, with the wires disconnected.
She is concerned about the situation, including the potential causes of such electrical faults and whether they are preventable.

Her family’s daily life is disrupted because her children can only study during the day because of the lack of electricity.

’I didn’t know that, as a resident, I would need to hire my own electrician to resolve the issue,” she said.
Khotseng also raised concerns about the risks of hiring a private electrician.

“What happens if the independent electrician causes further damage that affects other residents or neighbours?” she asked.

Busisiwe Khotsane’s DB box is disconnected without a proper explanation.

She wants guidance on how best to handle such a situation and called for clarity on the roles and responsibilities of the municipality and residents in cases like this.

The Kempton Express sent an enquiry to the city on November 22, requesting a response by midday on November 25.
