Foundation goes an extra mile to adopt a boy child.
Serurubele Jones (36), an openly gay activist from Mqantsa Section, Thembisa, is the founder and CEO of the Serurubele-Jones Foundation.
Driven by a lifelong dream to uplift and empower the community, Jones has officially registered the foundation after completing his duties as the 2023 winner of the Unseen International pageantry competition.
The Serurubele-Jones Foundation focuses on advocating for the rights and development of boys, promoting their emotional and social well-being, and ensuring they grow into empowered and responsible adults.

Additionally, the foundation champions the human rights of the LGBTQI+ community, striving to create a safe and inclusive environment locally and globally.
It provides support, mentorship, education, and skills development to help boys thrive in all aspects of life.
Jones explained the inspiration behind his work, “Growing up in a society where the girl child is prioritised, the boy child is often overlooked.
“This motivated me to advocate for boys, ensuring they receive the guidance and attention they need.”
On November 16, the foundation hosted an event aligned with its mission.
The event featured men sharing their personal stories and encouraging open conversations about emotions, breaking the stigma around vulnerability.

The overwhelming attendance underscored the importance of this dialogue in the community.
Jones credited collaborations with other organisations for elevating the foundation’s impact.
“One of our major achievements has been partnering with the Tembisa Drug Rehabilitation Movement.
“Together, we help rehabilitate men, setting positive examples for young boys.
“We also conduct school talks to encourage boys to stay on the right path in life,” he shared.
The foundation’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. It was nominated for the Katlehong Small Business Awards in the Community Development category.
“This recognition comes at the perfect time, highlighting the work we do from the goodness of our hearts.
“It’s not about showing off, but about motivating others and inspiring change. We hope the nomination will encourage even more people to support us,” said Jones.

As the festive season approaches, the foundation plans to launch an initiative called Adopt a Boy Child.
This programme encourages community members to mentor a boy, provide guidance, and offer small tokens of care, such as clothing or toiletries.
“Some boys have never experienced a father’s love. This initiative allows them to feel cared for and valued,” said Jones.
After this initiative, the foundation will take a brief break over the festive season to allow everyone to spend time with their families and recharge for the year ahead.
