Arrest of drug trafficker at OR Tambo International Airport commended – ACSA

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) commended the SAPS for their swift and effective action in apprehending a suspected drug trafficker at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA).
They arrested the suspect, a 25-year-old Brazilian national, on November 24 after arriving from São Paulo. He had over 3kg of cocaine valued at an estimated R1.8m concealed on his body.
Jabulani Khambule, ACSA regional general manager for Cluster 1, applauded the efforts of all stakeholders involved.

“We commend the police and all law enforcement partners for their vigilance and collaboration in safeguarding our airports and communities,” said Khambule.
“ORTIA serves as a key gateway to the country, and ACSA is committed to ensuring it remains a secure environment for everyone.
“The arrest demonstrates the importance of intelligence sharing and operational synergy in combating criminal activities,” added Khambule.
He felt the arrest underscored the strong partnership between the SAPS, airport security personnel, and other agencies.
