Local organisations join hands for upliftment

Speakers emphasised the importance of respecting different faiths and the religious texts they follow, advocating for collaboration to benefit the community.

At the end of November last year, various organisations came together for their final gathering of the year, aiming to encourage the community and families to seek God’s love and be a source of light in times of need.

The event’s theme, ‘Light the World in 25 Ways over 25 Days’, featured numerous speakers, including Bishop Madonsela, Bishop Mtshali, Bishop Mashishi, Gezani Ndlovu, Betty Sekhala, Brother Mohau, and Mpumelelo Buthelezi.

The bishops focused on uniting churches in the area through prayer.

They emphasised the importance of respecting different faiths and the religious texts they follow, advocating for collaboration to benefit the community.

One speaker noted that reading religious texts from other faiths would not compromise one’s beliefs but rather foster an understanding of how others worship.

Mpumelelo Buthelezi, representing the Boys Mentorship Organisation, shared his journey of overcoming hardships through faith.

“I come from difficult circumstances and never imagined I could succeed, but since I gave my life to Christ, I have seen a positive change. As I mentor young people, I aim to guide them to become champions of hope.

“I urge parents to encourage their boys to join the programme as it will transform their lives,” he said.

Betty Sekhala, speaking on behalf of the disability sector, highlighted the challenges faced by people with disabilities, including a lack of resources and serious consideration in various sectors.

She called for equal respect and urged organisations to combat the stigma and discrimination faced by disabled individuals.

Faith-Based Organisation chairperson of Ekurhuleni North, Bishop Michael Mtshali, shared a motivational testimony to inspire attendees.

“I was placed here to uplift community work in various ways, which is why I’m involved with numerous organisations. We are working tirelessly to safeguard our area, create job opportunities, and enhance residents’ skills.

“The collaboration between churches and organisations demonstrates that great minds thinking alike can achieve remarkable results,” he said.
