Kempton Park SPCA prepared for 2025
“Food is always a dire need of the SPCA, we spend on average around R20 000 on food per month for our fur babies to ensure they are given good quality and well balanced food,” said Kuch.

The Kempton Park SPCA faced numerous challenges in 2024, but despite these obstacles the organisation has made significant strides in promoting animal welfare and providing care to those in need.
According to Christine Kuch, committee member, board member, and vice chairperson of the NSPCA, fundraising has been a persistent challenge for many SPCAs.
“Operating costs, such as vehicle repairs and maintenance, have placed significant pressure on our budget. For example, our vehicle repair efforts earlier this year cost us R20 000,” said Kuch.

“Electricity costs have also affected us heavily, and we’ve had to review service providers to save on expenses.
“This ensures we can allocate as much money as possible to the animals in our care and to our fantastic team, who day in and day out witness and attend to the most horrific cruelties without fear or favour.”
Kuch added that they are actively seeking volunteers to join the management committee of the SPCA to help run the organisation.
She encouraged anyone interested to come forward and apply.
She also highlighted the urgent need to replace their kennel shade netting, which has suffered significant wear and tear.
“We are currently replacing all the shade netting at our premises,” she said.

“Food is always a dire need for the SPCA. We spend on average around R20 000 per month on food for our fur babies to ensure they receive good quality and well-balanced meals,” Kuch added.
Despite these challenges, the Kempton Park SPCA has had notable successes. Jaimin Patel, treasurer of Kempton Park SPCA and NSPCA compliance officer, noted that generous donations from the community have been vital in supporting their operations.
“Every little bit helps, whether it’s washing powder for cleaning animal blankets or a tray of doughnuts for our staff.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Kempton Park community for stepping up not only to aid our animals but also to support our staff,” said Patel.
“We have strengthened our enforcement of NSPCA rules to ensure fair and effective operations among SPCAs.
“This has also led to increased learning among our staff on animal husbandry and kennel management.”
Patel also highlighted their success in rescuing and rehoming a significant number of animals, thanks to the dedication of their staff and volunteers.
Community support also enabled the purchase of a new vehicle to assist with their challenging journeys.

Recently, their staff provided assistance in a shocking case of animal cruelty at OR Tambo International Airport, where a French visitor threw her dog from the third-floor balcony.
Patel confirmed that the SPCA currently does not have a new manager in place.
The management committee is overseeing operations in the interim to ensure a smooth transition and continued focus on their mission.
Looking ahead, Patel said the organisation aims to foster stronger community engagement, build deeper connections with local residents, and expand their team and resources to provide better care for animals and enforce welfare standards effectively.
“We’re really looking forward to a more peaceful year, with fewer obstacles and a continued focus on our mission,” said Patel.
He also outlined several areas where the SPCA requires support:
• Donations for infrastructure: Contributions towards ongoing maintenance of their kennels.
• Volunteer assistance: Helping hands for events, animal care, and general operations.
• Corporate sponsorships: Partnerships with businesses to sustain and expand services.
• General donations: Items such as old clothes, goods for the charity shop, cat and dog food, or treats for staff are always welcome.
“We never say no to any donations made to the SPCA,” Patel said.
