During investigations, it was found that the Tiida had false registration plates, and its engine and chassis numbers had been removed.

Benoni Flying Squad officers arrested two suspects and impounded four motor vehicles in separate incidents between January 21 and January 25.

On January 24 officers acted on information received in two separate incidents through collaboration with security and community networks.

In the first incident, a 42-year-old suspect was arrested on Akasia Street, Northmead, after it was discovered that his white Mazda Drifter was bearing false registration plates.

In the second incident, members provided backup to security personnel who had pulled over a white Nissan Tiida on the N12, heading towards Witbank, just after the Tom Jones onramp.

During investigations, it was found that the Tiida had false registration plates, and its engine and chassis numbers had been removed.

The original numbers were traced, revealing that the vehicle had been hijacked in January 2024 in Kempton Park.

The 37-year-old driver was immediately arrested, and both vehicles involved in these incidents were impounded.
Further policing efforts led to the recovery of two abandoned vehicles.
