Police nab suspects and recover drugs and illicit products in operations

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, a 36-year-old suspect was arrested after illicit cigarettes estimated at around R6 000 were discovered in the shop.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members arrested 10 suspects and recovered a large amount of dagga in operations held between February 10 to 16.

At around 13:15 on February 10, BFS officers followed a lead to a shop on 3rd Road, Bredell, Kempton Park.

The suspect offered the officials money for his release and he was charged with bribery.

The suspect was detained at Kempton Park SAPS and all exhibits were handed in.

On February 11, members followed up yet another lead from detectives and traced a 35-year-old female suspect to the R555, Etwatwa.

She was sought on a warrant of arrest for a Devon case of theft from June 2023 and detained at Devon SAPS.

Members patrolling in Laris Road next to Chris Hani informal settlement, on Sunday at around 17:10 pulled over a white Toyota Corolla with three occupants.

During the search, two large black plastic bags containing dagga were found in the boot with an estimated value of around R30 000.

The suspects aged 21 to 24 were immediately arrested and detained at Etwatwa SAPS.

In further policing, five suspects aged 25 to 50 were arrested for drug-related offences on Monument Road, Kempton Park, Kimbolton Avenue, Benoni and Wenden Avenue, Brakpan. Crystal methamphetamine and Mandrax were recovered in these separate incidents.

The investigation continues and suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of possession of drugs, possession of illicit cigarettes and bribery.
