Flying squad arrests suspects and recover ammunition

Suspects arrested for car burglary, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of hijacked motor vehicle.

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested four suspects and recovered ammunition and one motor vehicle between March 13 and March 16.

According to the unit’s spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, on Thursday, BFS members followed up information at around 20:00 in Ermelo Street, Strubenvale, Springs for suspects wanted for a car burglary which took place in February.

The two suspects were found in a white Renault Kwid and arrested with some of the personal items taken from the victim’s vehicle recovered in their possession.

On March 15 officers received information regarding a suspect travelling in a white Toyota Sprinter carrying a firearm.

At around 14:00, the vehicle matching the description was pulled over in Ampthill Avenue, Benoni.

A 46-year-old foreign national was arrested when he was found with four live rounds of ammunition in his possession.

A charge of bribery was added when he offered members R2 000 for his release.

In addition, members assisted Tracker on March 16 with the arrest of a 46-year-old suspect and recovery of a hijacked white Toyota Hilux at Ivory Park Ext 3.

The Hilux was reported in an Ivory Park case.

Investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of car burglary, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of hijacked motor vehicle.
