Athletics club represents Thembisa in the national sector.
Athletes from the ELV Athletics Club, under the guidance of Coach Elvis Khoza, have excelled in recent track and field events, securing spots to represent Thembisa at the ASA Championships in Green Point Stadium, Cape Town.
The group, which includes trainees from the University of Johannesburg, delivered outstanding performances despite training under challenging conditions.
Khoza expressed pride in his athletes, highlighting their determination and resilience.

“I train these athletes on the dusty and dry grounds of Thembisa High School.
“Despite the lack of proper training facilities, they continue to push forward and achieve incredible results.
“I wish the government would invest in upgrading the facilities, as these athletes are putting Thembisa on the map,” said Khoza.
The club’s athletes dominated their respective events, with all participants securing podium finishes.
Chegofatso Masete won gold in the U20 men’s 200m with a time of 21.29 seconds, while Lindani Nkabini also claimed gold in the U16 boys’ 1 500m steeplechase with a time of 4:41.54.
Gibor Basila took home two medals, winning gold in the U20 men’s triple jump with a distance of 14.39m and silver in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.99 seconds.

Several athletes secured silver medals, including Sylvia Israel, who finished second in the U20 men’s 800m with a time of 1:55.90.
Chumile Tshangela also earned silver in the U16 boys’ 1500m, clocking in at 4:20.00, while Siyanda Malone placed second in the U18 men’s 2 000m steeplechase with a time of 6:11.51.
Benkosi Maqwara secured silver in the U20 men’s 5 000m with a time of 15:18.89.
Bronze medals were awarded to Ndjebo Siphesohle, who finished third in the U16 girls’ 100m with a time of 12.82 seconds, and Junior Mphela, who took third place in the U20 men’s 800m with a time of 1:56.80.
Additionally, Hope Dlada competed in the U18 women’s triple jump, achieving a distance of 10.47m, while Sihle Mbatha and Amogelang Mogoshane put up strong performances in their respective races.
