SAPS arrests two suspects and recover illicit products

The goods valued at around R500 000 were booked in as exhibits while the bus used by the suspects was impounded.

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested two suspects and recovered illicit goods on March 29.

Members patrolling on the N12 West next to Etwatwa off-ramp at around 06:00 became suspicious of a white Mercedes bus that took the off-ramp and proceeded towards Etwatwa direction.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the officers called for backup and with the assistance of a second SAPS vehicle, they pulled the bus with two occupants over.

The search of the bus led to the discovery of boxes containing vapes and hubbly tobaccos.

The suspects could not give a valid explanation or proof of purchase for the goods and were placed under arrest.

One suspect offered the officials money for his release. He was charged with bribery.

The suspects will be appearing in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court facing charges of possession of illicit goods and bribery.
