Oranjehof retirement village to host fundraiser
Affectionately referred to as the Winter and Summer Markets, these vibrant events are major fundraising opportunities and draw strong support from the surrounding community.
Nestled between Kempton Park and Benoni, in a tranquil, countryside setting, lies Oranjehof, a Dutch retirement village established in 1981.
For many retired Dutch immigrants and those who embrace Dutch culture, Oranjehof offers a warm, welcoming environment to enjoy their golden years.
The village is known for its peaceful atmosphere, picturesque natural surroundings, and a strong sense of community.

Residents enjoy a variety of social activities with friends and countrymen, making Oranjehof an ideal place for meaningful, enjoyable retirement living.

As part of their fundraising efforts, Oranjehof operates a charming on-site shop, which is open to both residents and visitors.
Volunteer Alicia Davisson explained that Oranjehof is proud to have a quaint shop on the premises that sells traditional Dutch treats.
“It’s open every Friday morning from 11:00 to 13:00, and from 09:00 to 13:00 on the last Friday of every month, when we host an informal Cheese Market.”
Another popular feature is the White Elephant Stall, also open on Friday mornings.

Stocked with donated items from residents and visitors, the stall offers a treasure trove of second-hand goods, where shoppers are bound to find a gem or two.
All proceeds go towards supporting the village and its residents, and donations are always welcome.
Oranjehof is especially well known for its twice-yearly Market Days, one on Workers’ Day (May 1) and the other on the first Saturday of November.

Davisson noted that the village also boasts its waterfront on the scenic Blaaupan Dam, a haven for nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts.
“The village is just far enough from OR Tambo International Airport to avoid air traffic noise but close enough for convenient travel,” she said.
“Shopping centres are nearby, and there’s easy access to Gauteng’s highway network, making Oranjehof highly accessible.”

With over four decades of history, Oranjehof has become well known both locally and further afield, particularly thanks to its Dutch markets, and cultural highlights that attract thousands of visitors each year.
Don’t miss Oranjehof’s first market of the year on May 1.
Residents are invited to experience a taste of Dutch culture, support a worthy cause, and be part of a vibrant, welcoming community.
