Local philanthropist leads sock donation campaign

Known for her sanitary pad campaigns and motivational talks, Palesa continues to use her pageant platform to inspire and lead impactful community initiatives.

Palesa Mailula, model and philanthropist, continues to break boundaries in both pageantry and community service.

Palesa is using her platform not only to inspire but to actively serve her community, one act of kindness at a time.

Known for her motivational talks and successful sanitary pad drives, Palesa has now launched a Winter Sock Donation Drive aimed at keeping youth and vulnerable families warm during the colder months.

“As a finalist in my latest competition, I wanted to do something different this time,” she said.

“Instead of another pad drive or motivational talk, I saw a real need to help people stay warm this winter. It’s the coldest we’ve had in years. Donating a simple pair of socks can bring real comfort to those who are struggling.”

Through her Dipalesa Foundation, she’s calling on the public to donate new or gently used socks. Drop-offs can be made at 7521 Zone 2, Winnie Mandela.

Her inspiration came from witnessing the hardships many in her community face during winter, particularly children from low-income households.

“I want to see smiles on faces and warmth in hearts. I believe that every small act of kindness counts and that together, we can make a big difference.”

Palesa also wants to shift the perception of pageantry.

“Pageantry isn’t about beauty alone,” she explained. “It’s about substance, leadership, and creating safe spaces for others.”

As her campaign continues, Palesa plans to roll out more community-based initiatives and remain a beacon of hope and action.

“This is just the beginning. I want to continue engaging with communities and spreading positivity. Let’s join hands and make this winter a little warmer — one pair of socks at a time.”
