Kempton Park Ext 4 residents celebrate park revival after years of neglect
After years of overgrowth and safety concerns, a local park in Kempton Park Extension 4 has been restored following community complaints and media attention.
Residents of Kempton Park Ext 4 are celebrating the revival of their local park after years of neglect.
Once a popular gathering spot for families and friends, the park had fallen into disrepair, with overgrown grass, invasive trees, and concerns about safety.
The lack of maintenance had become a growing worry for locals, who feared the unkempt conditions could attract snakes and other wildlife.

Despite repeated calls for action, residents felt their concerns were being ignored.
That changed when a recent article highlighting the park’s deterioration brought much-needed attention to the issue.
Soon after publication online, the City of Ekurhuleni’s parks department responded by sending a clean-up team to the site.
Neo Masethe, a resident who lives opposite the park, said he was thrilled to see action being taken.
“I can’t wait to hang out with my friends again. It’s been a long time since we’ve just chilled and enjoyed nature’s beauty,” he said.
The clean-up was a welcome intervention.
Municipal workers cut the long grass, removed unwanted trees, and began restoring the park to its former condition. The transformation left residents feeling proud and excited to reclaim their green space.
Tankiso Makotanyane echoed the community’s sentiment. “The long grass was a major turn-off, but now it’s safe and clean. I’m overjoyed”

Another resident added, “I’m so relieved the grass is finally cut. We used to get bitten by mosquitoes all the time, now we can enjoy the park without being eaten alive.”
A group of local teenagers were equally excited about the upgrade.
“We’re planning to hang out here every weekend now,” they said. “It’s awesome to have a clean, safe place to relax with our friends.”
