Ekurhuleni emergency services urge safe heating as cold front hits Gauteng
As freezing temperatures sweep through Gauteng, Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) are warning residents to use heaters, braziers, and stoves with caution to prevent house fires. Officials remain on high alert and ready to respond.
As a bitter cold front grips Gauteng, the CoE’s DEMS urges residents to exercise extreme caution when using heating devices.
The South African Weather Services predicts that temperatures will likely drop significantly, increasing the risk of fires caused by unsafe heating practices.
DEMS spokesperson Eric Maloka warns the public never to leave heat sources unattended. This includes electrical heaters, braziers (izimbawula), paraffin stoves and candles.
He urges residents to use all heating devices responsibly and to plan ahead to stay safe and warm. Fire stations across Ekurhuleni’s three regions remain fully operational and ready to respond to emergencies.
