Peermont bursary get empowered for academic success

Earlier this year, the first workshop introduced bursars to goal-setting through a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis.

Beyond tuition, books, accommodation, laptops, and a monthly stipend, students funded through Peermont Hotels, Casinos and Resorts’ scholarship programmes also benefit from ongoing mentorship and development opportunities designed to equip them for life beyond university.

These bursars, supported through the Peermont Education Trust, a CSI initiative of Emperors Palace, the Southern Highveld Community Development Trust, linked to Graceland Hotel Casino & Country Club, and the Peermont Community Benefit Trust, which supports Hospitality Management students, recently attended a second three-day workshop at Emperors Palace.

The workshops form part of these trusts’ holistic approach to student success, focusing strongly on socio-psychological support to help students develop life skills and increase their chances of graduating and finding employment.

The latest workshop, held during the July university recess, followed the initial induction programme in February.

Facilitators guided the 50 bursars in attendance through a structured programme under the theme: ‘Who am I and how far have I come?’

The aim was to help students reflect on their personal growth and challenges as they prepare to move forward with clarity and purpose.

The first day focused on reflection and mindset, encouraging students to examine their experiences and understand the factors that have shaped them.

On the second day, the bursars explored their academic and personal journeys in greater depth, identifying obstacles, celebrating progress, and rewriting their stories with renewed intention.

The final day centred on practical tools and planning.

The facilitators introduced the students to time management strategies, boundary-setting for personal success, and career-readiness skills to support them through their studies and improve their employability after graduation.

Earlier this year, the first workshop introduced bursars to goal-setting through a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis.

This exercise helped them map out their academic year and set clear targets, supported by the tools and resources provided during the sessions.

These interventions demonstrate Peermont’s commitment to developing well-rounded graduates who are not only academically equipped but also emotionally and professionally prepared to enter the workforce.
