Glen Marais pastor inspires children with first book and plush toy

Pastor and her son help children to find their purpose through a published book.

Glen Marais resident and pastor, Belinda Wolmarans has written and published her first children’s book, Gospel Grape, and partnered with her son, Aaron Wolmarans (7), to create a companion plush toy.

The project aims to encourage children to discover their God-given talents and purpose from an early age.

Belinda, who wrote the story in her 20s, said her work as a full-time pastor inspired her to publish the book.

“As my older son discovered his talent in cricket, I wanted to inspire children to find and develop their own talents for God’s glory while also supporting my son in pursuing his cricket dreams,” she said.

The plush toy reflects Aaron’s love of toys, the Word of God, and the performing arts. He also contributed his voice to the recording, which Belinda described as fun and empowering for him.

Aaron, currently in Grade One, is passionate about cricket, singing, and dancing.

He dreams of becoming a doctor or a police officer.

“I love taking care of my mother. Whenever she doesn’t feel well, I pray for her and help where I can. I believe my prayers work because of God,” Aaron said.

For Belinda, writing the book was straightforward, but trusting an external designer for the illustrations was a challenge.

She partnered with Latisha Fontein of LA & Designs for the graphics and spent months developing the plush toy.

“Starting something new can be very challenging, but knowing your purpose makes the journey worthwhile,” she said.

“This is my first published book, and I already have another in the works. I want to continue writing to encourage children in their faith and help them discover their potential,” Belinda added.

The book took about a year to publish, including the manufacturing of the plush toy.

Belinda’s passion for children and her faith inspired the story, which conveys hope, purpose, and the importance of using one’s gifts to help others.

“Life in Christ has purpose. Writing Christian books not only tells a story but delivers a message of hope. It motivates children to trust God, persevere, and see their potential,” Belinda said.

She emphasised keeping the story simple and relatable for children of different ages and backgrounds.

The book is now available for order via Belinda’s Facebook page, Gospel Grape, or by email at belindawolmarans1@gmail.com.
Plans are underway to make it available in bookstores soon.
