City begins final checks before restoring Kempton Park power

It remains unclear whether planned load rotation for Kempton Park will continue in the event of a full restoration.

The City of Ekurhuleni said the final stages of testing at the main supply substation in Kempton Park are currently underway.

If the tests are successful, the restoration process will begin in phases to allow the grid to stabilise. According to the city, all areas are expected to be fully restored later this afternoon.

It remains unclear whether planned load rotation for Kempton Park will continue in the event of a full restoration.

Earlier today, the City of Ekurhuleni announced that load rotation will be implemented in Kempton Park from 15:00.

According to MMC Clr Mzayifani Ngwenya, the following areas will have power ON from 15:00.

  • Van Riebeeck Park
  • Terenure
  • Edleen
  • Kempton Park West
  • Birch Acres
  • Rhodesfield Extension 1
  • Croydon
  • Kempton Park CBD and Extensions 2–4

The following areas will be OFF:

  • Glen Marais
  • Birchleigh
  • Allen Grove
  • Aston Manor
  • Bonaero Park
  • Norkem Park

The city cautioned that restoration times may vary depending on load conditions and whether any infrastructure vandalism occurs.
