Mamie’s Angels stages GBV awareness picket in Thembisa during 16 Days of Activism

Mamie’s Angels Centre in Kempton Park joined the 16 Days of Activism campaign with a picket outside the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court, honouring victims of violence and calling for stronger community action against gender-based violence.

Mamie’s Angels Centre, based in Kempton Park, picketed outside the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court on December 1, as part of its 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.

This year’s theme, “Remember Her,” focused on honouring the principal and administrative clerk who were killed at Inxiweni Primary School in Thembisa.

Mamie’s Angels operates in partnership with 1000Women1Voice Trust, a national movement founded in 2003 and headquartered in Cape Town.

The organisation supports survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) by restoring dignity and empowerment to women.

“We provide free trauma counselling and training to become a GBV first responder. We offer shelter referrals and collaborate with the SAPS, NPOs, churches, the private sector and community leaders to combat GBV.”

“We invite everyone to join the movement by volunteering, supporting our campaigns, and reporting abusers,” explained Francine Nzika, a 1000Women GBV first responder for Gauteng.

The movement’s ambassadors and “warriors” run campaigns nationwide.

1000Women provides healing support, educational programmes, resources, and community-driven solutions in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide.
