Norkem Park CPF reviews 2025 safety efforts and sets priorities for 2026
The Norkem Park CPF says 2025 brought both challenges and progress, with patrollers maintaining strong visibility and outlining new priorities for crime prevention and GBV awareness in the year ahead.
The Norkem Park CPF says 2025 has been both challenging and encouraging, with patrollers continuing to show commitment despite limited resources and increasing crime pressures.
Throughout the year, CPF patrollers maintained strong visibility, particularly during load-shedding and peak crime hours. Joint operations with SAPS enabled them to prevent break-ins, respond to disturbances, and monitor suspicious vehicles across the sector.

“The main crime trends we faced this year included housebreakings, theft out of motor vehicles, robberies, substance-related issues, and a noticeable increase in domestic violence.
“Through quick reporting on our groups and the watchful eye of our patrollers, many residents received timely assistance,” said Norkem Park CPF Sector 1 chairperson, Willem du Plessis.
Looking ahead, the CPF has highlighted its priority focus areas for the new year:
• Strengthening GBV prevention and awareness
• Growing patroller numbers and improving volunteer support
• Increasing joint operations with SAPS and security companies
• Enhancing home-security education and community reporting
One of the most significant developments this year was the President’s declaration of gender-based violence as a national disaster. For the Norkem Park CPF, this means GBV awareness and response will be a major priority in 2026.

The CPF says it will work closely with SAPS Victim Support, NGOs and social workers to ensure victims in the sector have safe and accessible channels to report incidents and receive assistance.
“To our patrollers, our SAPS partners, and our community members: thank you for your commitment and the countless hours you give to this sector. Together, we will continue working towards a safer and stronger Birchleigh, Edleen and Van Riebeeck Park,” Du Plessis said.
