Safety concerns referred to PRASA after Rhodesfield train death

Msibi said the PRASA Board has been urge to address issues of safety and security as a matter of urgency.

Responding to questions from the Kempton Express following the fatal train incident in Rhodesfield, National Department of Transport spokesperson Collen Msibi expressed condolences to the victim’s family.

“It is regrettable to have learned of the incident this week in which a young woman lost her life after being struck by a train near the Rhodesfield railway line. We wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and their loved ones,” said Msibi.

Msibi said the PRASA Board has been urged to address safety and security concerns with urgency.

“These are operational matters relating to train services. The PRASA Board is the executive authority responsible for ensuring that management takes accountability for passenger rail safety,” he said.

He added that such issues would be referred to the PRASA Board to ensure they receive the necessary attention.

Commenting on the intention by Ward 17 Clr Simon Lapping to open a criminal case, Msibi said: “I understand that Lapping is pressing criminal charges. We shall await the outcome of that process.”
