Kempton Park police lead crime awareness campaign in honour of National Police Day
Kempton Park police, with other law enforcement agencies, conducted a crime awareness operation to honour fallen SAPS members and reinforce operational readiness in the fight against crime.
Kempton Park Police members, with other law enforcement agencies, conducted a Crime Awareness Campaign in observance of National Police Day, commemorated on January 27.
National Police Day honours members of the South African Police Service who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The campaign began with a parade at Kempton Park Police Station, led by Station Commander Colonel Obed Mashalane and Support Commander Colonel Motsatsi Lesomo.

Proceedings opened with a prayer, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of fallen colleagues.
Addressing members, Mashalane emphasised the importance of remaining operationally ready at all times.

Lesomo urged officers to return to basics and adhere to the SAPS Code of Conduct, reminding them of their responsibility to protect and serve with pride. Members also participated in drill exercises aligned with the SAPS “Back to Basics” approach.
The operational phase commenced with a vehicle checkpoint at the corner of Central Avenue and Voortrekker Road in Kempton Park.
During the operation, 480 vehicles and 320 individuals were searched for illegal firearms, dangerous weapons and other unlawful items.
Officers further monitored identified crime hotspots, shopping malls and the Kempton Park central business district, areas known to contribute to criminal activity.

The operation yielded positive results, with one suspect arrested for possession of drugs and another for being an illegal immigrant.Both commanders commended members for their dedication and commitment to crime prevention.
Colonel Mashalane said similar operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to ensure Kempton Park remains a safe community.
