Community heroes step in to help Glen Marais homeless man

A call for assistance was received through the Share It Network, requesting a wellness check on a well-known and much-loved homeless man.

Yesterday, February 4, a call for assistance was received through the Share It Network, requesting a wellness check on a well-known and much-loved homeless man in the Glen Marais area.

Members of AfriForum Kempton Park responded to the call and met with a concerned resident at the scene.

The resident explained that the man, who lives in the nearby veld, had not been seen for several days, raising serious concern for his well-being.

A search was conducted and the man was located inside his makeshift shelter, approximately 75 metres from the road.

Additional emergency services and resources were immediately requested and dispatched through the Central Share It Network.

An initial assessment revealed that the patient was extremely dehydrated and severely weakened.

A clear plan of action was implemented to safely move him from the shelter to a more accessible area closer to the road to allow for urgent medical treatment.

With the combined efforts of AfriForum Kempton Park and 24/7 Security, the patient was carefully transported using a table as an improvised stretcher.

On-site medical care was provided by RWT’s Medic Heroes, and a GPG Ambulance Services arrived shortly thereafter and transported the patient to BBH for further medical intervention.
