New book explores identity and healing through faith
Author Bongani Lempe reflects on overcoming trauma and finding purpose through spirituality.
Designer, poet, and author Bongani Lempe has shared insight into the process behind his book Wounded but Not Defeated:
Identity Restored through Christ.
Lempe said the book was inspired by his personal journey and his desire to share how faith has shaped his life.
He emphasised that a person’s past does not define their future, and that, regardless of circumstances, one should lean on God for guidance and strength.

During the writing process, Lempe had to revisit past traumas that influenced his identity, which he described as one of the most challenging aspects of completing the book.
He explained that each chapter carried emotional weight but also represented personal growth.
He noted that revisiting those experiences did not make him weak, but rather demonstrated his ability to confront and process his trauma.
One of the main challenges he faced was fear; both the fear of reliving painful experiences and concern about how his story would be received by readers.
“I overcame it all by trusting in God. I realised that faith and fear do not exist in the same room,” said Lempe.

He added that the book has had a profound impact on his life, allowing him to express himself more freely through writing while also helping others who may have lost their sense of identity to find hope through faith.
Lempe hopes that readers will be encouraged by his story and reminded that restoration is possible.
