Allen Glen market brings community together at monthly event
A variety of items were sold such as: handmade gifts/items, food stalls like pancakes, fat cakes and mince, curry and rice and home baked cookies, koeksisters and plenty more.
Allen Park Council of the Aged hosted its monthly market at the Allen Glen Shopping Centre, on the corner of Cactus and Partridge roads, on March 7.
The market featured a variety of stalls offering handmade goods and food. Visitors could enjoy treats such as pancakes, vetkoek with mince, curry and rice, as well as home-baked cookies and koeksisters, among other items.

Residents were also entertained by live music from Schalk Steyn, also known as “Skollie”, who performed country and western favourites.

Event organiser Trudie Coetser said the market not only provides an opportunity for social interaction but also helps vendors supplement their income.

“We are working to earn extra income as the cost of living continues to rise. At the same time, we enjoy being out in the community with family and friends and spending time outdoors,” she said.
Coetser explained that most of the vendors are home-based entrepreneurs, although the market also welcomes outside vendors.
She added that organisers hope to grow the market further by attracting more stallholders in the future.

“We would like to invite the community to join us every month. We hope to make a success of the market, as it is important for everyone involved,” said Coetser.
