Letter: 30 years of faith and learning at Sonrise Christian School
From humble beginnings in 1996, the Kempton Park school reflects on its growth and lasting community influence.
EDITOR – During a 1995 scheduled meeting, the far-sighted Elders of the Church of Christ – Kempton Park recognised the need for a Christian-based school, compliant with the requirements of the Department of Education, to educate and minister to the children of Kempton Park and Thembisa.
Though the congregation was relatively small at the time, they placed their faith in God and worked tirelessly to raise the necessary funds to build, furnish, and register Sonrise Christian School in time for the start of the 1996 academic year.
As we look back on these humble beginnings and reflect on where we are today, we can justifiably be proud of all that has been achieved.

Graduates of our school have gone on to obtain doctorate, master’s, bachelor’s, and honours degrees in a wide range of fields, becoming influential decision-makers in organisations both in South Africa and abroad.
Our long-serving staff complement is a testament to the school’s lasting impact.
Among them are teachers who were once students at Sonrise Christian School themselves, now teaching the very subjects they learned in their own classrooms.
The school board, principal, pastor, and staff share a common goal: to provide strong early childhood development that culminates in learners becoming Christian members of the community, equipped with the values and attributes needed to make the world a better place and to pass on those God-given qualities to future generations.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the parents of our students, the Church of Christ congregation, our dedicated staff members, the residents of Kempton Park, and The Kempton Express for their valued support of the school over the past 30 years.
